Three step routines: Creating questions for answers

THREE STEP ROUTINES

Creating questions for answers

This is a no preparation activity that can be done when students are working on reading. It is an example of a demand-high approach which challenges students more than the usual reading tasks.

1 While SS are working on a text, go through the text and identify some information which can be given to learners to contruct questions.

2 Present the information to learners. The learners must create a valid question that would elicit the answer given.

3 Use a penalty-based marking scheme where the maximum number of points is 5 and one point is deducted for each mistake. This can create a long-term goal of eventually being able to create perfect questions with no deductions.
